‘ON THE ROAD AGAIN’ : words by Richard Godwin (featured in the October 2011 issue)
Historically accurate (?), culturally insightful and contemporarily relevant. Godwin’s article focused on the social myths and ideals surrounding the Jack Kerouac mantra while drawing our eye to links with A/W ’11 fashion. Nostalgic, yet astutely written this article was a real gem.
Godwin on the Beat women, Bob Dylan and that lost life on the road –
‘It’s really about the spirit. It’s about full engagements, spontaneity, let’s pile in the car and go. It may have inspired more posing than just about any other book; but it’s nothing to do with posing. It’s about being. Race you to Denver.’ (p. 127-128)
I have always loved the minimalist approach to clothing- Stella, Celine, Richard Nicoll, Jil Sander, Math, Philip Lim. Those who do it well are gifted with a countenance of ease, reserved only for the truly stylish. This season embraced the tailored look with a flash of daring print and contrasting colour. Here is my pick of in tune high street apparel, with less offense to the bank balance.
Again, some of my own.
A stylist I have always admired. There is a distinctive ease to her styling; her looks appear effortlessly put together, unforced and thus infinitely stylish. Shooting predominately for Vogue, Almond’s vision resonates that rare but perfect balance between paired down and dolled up.
